Luminary Town Vendors and Crafting

Blacksmith, Armorer, Arcanist, and Chef — who to pay first and how gathering feeds every upgrade.

Vendors and Crafting

Four vendors define Luminary’s horizontal progression: Blacksmith, Armorer, Arcanist, and Chef. Refractive Entertainment spreads power across weapons, defense, skills, and consumable buffs so no single stat bar solves the OpenZone. Steam Early Access arrives August 11, 2026 at $19.99 with these systems fully active on roughly half the two-kilometer-square map. Crafting is not a separate minigame menu — it flows through vendor screens fed by combat loot, Mining ore, Fishing catches, and animal ingredients gathered near hub exits.

This guide complements Level Up and Town Vendors with town-category depth and sibling links to gathering pages. Read Hub Overview first if you still get lost in the plaza loop.

Blacksmith — weapon power

The Blacksmith upgrades Sword and Shield, Bow, and Magic Glove lines independently. Weapon tier jumps unlock combo breakpoints against elite break bars — timing covered in Combat Basics and Melee Build / Ranged Build / Magic Build pages.

Early Access spending rule: max one primary weapon before touching secondary swap weapons unless a encounter hard-counters your main. Spreading ore across three lines creates three mediocre weapons instead of one reliable DPS tool.

Ore sources: mining nodes, camp chests, Tower liberation rewards. Bank rare ingots for post-endboss Tier prep in Hall of Heroes and Endgame.

Armorer — survivability ceiling

Armorer handles helmets, chest, legs, and accessories. If you understand dodge windows but still die to trash packs, Armorer fixes the problem faster than over-leveling in a hot zone.

Priority slots:

  1. Chest — largest flat defense chunk.
  2. Helmet — often carries resist bonuses tied to regional corruption types.
  3. Legs and accessories — fill after core slots match Tower difficulty.

Pair Armorer upgrades with Sword and Shield block practice if you anchor co-op parties per Roles and Party Tips.

Arcanist — skills and utilities

Arcanist sells skill upgrades, reagents, and magical utilities. Not every skill is mandatory — buy interrupts, mobility, and break-bar helpers before cosmetic variants.

Co-op split shopping works well: one player focuses shield-strip spells, another sustain or cleanse utilities. Announce purchases so parties do not duplicate the same cooldown.

Arcanist stock often refreshes after Towers and Life Trees milestones. If recipes stall, clear linked Camps and Treasures satellites first.

Chef — meal buffs from gathering

Chef converts fish, crops, hunted drops, and caught critter meat into timed combat meals. Meals are the cheapest short-run power spike for Tower attempts — not optional min-maxing.

Ingredient pipeline:

  • Fish from Fishing routes.
  • Ore-independent crops from hub-adjacent fields or Life Tree rescue rewards.
  • Animal catching along safe roads for specialty proteins.

Always craft meals at hub immediately before gate exit so buff timers cover the full outbound run.

Crafting materials without infinite grinding

Luminary avoids pure kill-grind crafting. Materials arrive from:

SourceFeeds primarily
Mining oreBlacksmith, Armorer
Fish and crittersChef
Camp chestsMixed reagents
Tower liberationRare recipes, high-tier mats

If inventory fills mid-run, deposit at hub before combat — lost ore hurts more than lost trash loot.

Phase-based vendor order

Phase 1 — first region

  1. Blacksmith primary +1
  2. Chef general meal recipe
  3. Armorer chest or helmet
  4. Arcanist one interrupt or mobility skill

Phase 2 — pre-first Tower

  1. Clear linked camps per Camps and Treasures
  2. Blacksmith +2 if ore allows
  3. Chef meal tuned to Tower damage type if known
  4. Armorer weakest slot

Phase 3 — mid map and beyond

  1. Secondary weapon mid tier for swap flexibility
  2. Arcanist co-op support utilities
  3. Stockpile for Tier farms after end boss

Co-op vendor etiquette

  • Deposit communal mats to host world if that is your group agreement.
  • Craft Chef meals for everyone before travel.
  • Do not upgrade all three weapons simultaneously without party DPS alignment.
  • Guests ask before spending host-stored rare ingots.

Shared rules: Shared Progression and How Co-op Works.

Demo vendor caps

The Very Positive Steam demo introduces all four vendors but may cap recipe tiers below Early Access maximums. Use demo time to learn UI and ingredient sources, not to perfect best-in-slot gear. Transition notes: Getting Started and Demo Review.

Common crafting mistakes

  • Hoarding ore while attempting Towers under-geared.
  • Skipping Chef because combat potions feel sufficient — meals outperform potion spam per gold spent.
  • Buying every Arcanist skill instead of two useful utilities.
  • Ignoring Armorer because dodge feels enough until elites one-shot you.

Return to Town Hub when you need gathering route refreshers or Map Hub when vendor unlocks depend on regional liberation.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Luminary questions.

Which Luminary vendor should I upgrade first?

Blacksmith primary weapon first, then a Chef meal recipe. Add Armorer if you die too fast to trash mobs.

What does each town vendor do?

Blacksmith upgrades weapons, Armorer upgrades armor, Arcanist sells skills and reagents, Chef crafts buff meals from gathered ingredients.

How do mining and fishing connect to vendors?

Mining ore feeds Blacksmith and Armorer. Fish and critter ingredients feed Chef meals that boost your next combat run.

Should co-op parties split vendor shopping?

Yes. Split Arcanist utilities and share Chef crafting duties while agreeing on communal material storage first.

When do new vendor recipes unlock?

Tower liberations, Life Tree rescues, and linked camp clears often refresh vendor stock — check Map guides for regional gates.
